Does Touching Breasts Make Them Grow?

Medically reviewed by: Lonna P. Gordon, MD

As your body develops, you might hear all sorts of rumors, like touching or massaging breasts makes them grow. That’s not true.

There's plenty of wrong information out there about breast development. Some are cons, like creams or pills that claim to make breasts bigger (they don't). And things like sleeping in a bra or wearing a bra that's too small to affect breast growth are just old myths.

What Affects Breast Growth?

Genes and hormones (chemicals that help control how cells and organs work) affect breast growth. Some teens develop breasts early and others later. Breasts can keep growing and changing into the late teens.

Eating well and getting enough exercise and sleep can help your breasts develop in a healthy way.

What Else Should I Know?

Talk with your doctor if you’re wondering about your body and how it’s changing. Your doctor is used to answering questions about growth and can tell you about yours.
