Nemours KidsHealth at 30: A Timeline

Nemours KidsHealth® (KidsHealth.org) launched in 1995 as the first website completely devoted to children's health and parenting. In 2025 — and more than 6.4 billion visits later — it’s regarded as the largest and most reliable source for pediatric health information in the world.

For 30 years, parents, kids, teens, educators, and health care providers have turned to us for knowledge, perspective, advice, and comfort. Our doctor-approved, easy-to-understand content educates, motivates, and inspires families toward better health.

Take a look at our timeline below to see where we’ve been — and where we’re going. The best is yet to come!

KidsHealth Through the Years

1995: KidsHealth® is founded by Dr. Neil Izenberg. After a year of development, KidsHealth.org launches, becoming one of the first health websites, and the very first devoted to children's health and parenting. At the time, there were only about 25,000 websites worldwide.

Since then, KidsHealth articles, videos, animations, print publications, and health instructions have had more than 6 billion visits.

1997: KidsHealth.org and the American Medical Association (AMA) announce the launch of a national partnership, KidsHealth at the AMA. This is the first of many KidsHealth collaborations with leading organizations.

Today, KidsHealth partners with 70 children's hospitals, and more than 200 community hospitals, health systems, payers, nonprofits, and others to provide trusted education for their patients and families. 2003: KidsHealth launches the KidsHealth® KidsPoll, national surveys that give kids a voice about issues that affect them. Thousands of kids are surveyed online, at health and science centers, including at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and in classrooms with partners such as TIME For Kids. Over the years, KidsHealth has surveyed parents, kids, teens, and educators to better understand their knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about a variety of issues.

2004: KidsHealth is named to Time magazine's 50 Best Websites list. Among the many other accolades for KidsHealth.org: U.S. News & World Report's 30 Best Sites on the Web, ClearMark Award of Distinction, Healthcare Internet Hall of Fame, and Good Housekeeping's Best Family Health for Parents & Teens.
