The answer here is really whenever you start smelling stinky! This often begins when your body starts going through puberty.

Body odor happens when sweat and germs called bacteria mix. You can cut down on bacteria by making sure you take a bath or shower each day, especially if you get sweaty. It also helps to wear clean clothes (and clean underwear) everday.

Why Kind of Deodorant Should I Use?

If you decide to start using deodorant, choose a mild one. Avoid deodorants that have strong scents. Also, deodorants that come in a stick are often easier to use than liquids or gels.

If your new deodorant makes your skin red, itchy, or irritated, stop using it right away and let your parents know. They’ll help you pick out a new deodorant and may take you to the doctor to find out if you have an allergy (say: AL-ur-jee).
