What to Do About Homesickness
Give your child a chance to get familiar with the new camp or school before the first day. Kids may wonder: Where will I sleep? Where will I eat? Where will I go to the bathroom? Where will I play? If possible, visit the new place, show your child pictures, or talk with other families who have been there.
When departure day arrives, try to be cheerful. Avoid dwelling on how much you will miss your child. Set a positive tone by talking about the fun your child will have and expressing your confidence in him or her.
