Cómo tratar el crup
El crup es una infección de origen viral que afecta a las vías respiratorias superiores, alrededor de las cuerdas vocales y de la tráquea. La inflamación de esta zona puede causar una tos seca o de perro. El crup, una enfermedad que se ve más a menudo a finales del verano y durante los meses de otoño, suele afectar a los niños pequeños.
¿Cuáles son los signos y síntomas del crup?
- tos seca o de perro
- emitir un sonido agudo al inspirar (conocido como estridor)
- respirar más fuerte de lo habitual
- tener la nariz tapada o moqueo nasal
- fiebre
¿Qué debo hacer si mi hijo tiene crup?
- Abra el grifo del agua caliente de la ducha para que el cuarto de baño se llene de vapor y siente allí a su hijo durante 20 minutos.
- Saque a su hijo al exterior durante los meses más frescos durante unos minutos. Esto le puede ayudar a respirar.
- Use un humidificador de vapor frío. Hacer que su hijo respire aire húmedo puede aliviar los síntomas.
Haga que su hijo reciba cuidados médicos si:
- tiene dificultades para respirar (respira demasiado deprisa o la piel que tiene entre las costillas se le mete hacia dentro al respirar)
- le cuesta respirar
- se le ponen los labios o la boca pálidos o azulados
- babea o tiene dificultades para tragar
- se cansa con facilidad
¿Qué puedo hacer para prevenir el crup?
Lavarse las manos a fondo y con frecuencia y evitar el contacto con personas que tienen infecciones respiratorias son las dos mejores protecciones contra los virus que causan el crup.
