A-Z: Cuerpo extraño, ojo
Los párpados y las pestañas suelen lograr mantener los objetos (o cuerpos extraños), como el polvo, fuera del ojo, pero a veces se cuelan algunas cosas.

Para evitar dañar el ojo, se debe extraer del ojo cualquier objeto que no sea arrastrado inmediatamente por las lágrimas. El cuerpo extraño se puede extraer del ojo mediante irrigación (lavándolo con un chorro de agua) o con un pequeño instrumento estéril. Se suele aplicar un tinte inocuo (fluoresceína) sobre la superficie del ojo para ayudar al médico a ver el objeto. Este tinte tiñe temporalmente las lágrimas, las secreciones nasales y, a veces, la piel que hay alrededor del ojo.
Tenga en cuenta lo siguiente
Durante 24-72 horas, una persona a quien se le haya extraído un cuerpo extraño del ojo puede seguir notando como si tuviera algo dentro del ojo, tener la visión ligeramente borrosa o ser sensible a la luz. Esto ocurre porque a veces un objeto deja un pequeño arañazo o rasguño en la superficie ocular, que el médico podrá ver con el tinte de fluoresceína. Los síntomas suelen mejorar de un día para otro, pero pueden durar unos pocos días mientras se cure la lesión.
