Ecografía: Renal (riñones, uréteres y vejiga)
¿Qué es una ecografía?
Una ecografía es un estudio médico que usa ondas de sonido de alta frecuencia para crear imágenes en vivo del interior del cuerpo. También se lo llama "sonograma". La ecografía les permite a los médicos ver los tejidos blandos del cuerpo, lo que no pueden hacer las radiografías.
Los médicos piden hacer ecografías por muchas razones, como buscar las causas del dolor, la hinchazón y la infección. Las ecografías son seguras e indoloras.
¿Qué es una ecografía renal?
Una ecografía renal utiliza ondas sonoras para generar imágenes de los riñones, los uréteres y la vejiga.
Durante la exploración, el ecógrafo envía ondas sonoras al área renal (riñones), y se van registrando imágenes en una computadora. Las imágenes en blanco y negro muestran las estructuras internas de los riñones y de los órganos adyacentes.
¿Por qué se hacen las ecografías renales?
Los médicos mandan ecografías renales cuando están preocupados por algunos problemas renales o de la vejiga. Las ecografías renales pueden mostrar:
- el tamaño de los riñones
- signos de lesiones en los riñones
- anomalías presentes desde el nacimiento
- bloqueos o cálculos renales
- complicaciones de infecciones de orina
- quistes o tumores
A veces, el niño necesita tener la vejiga llena para hacer una ecografía renal. En estos casos, el médico les dará instrucciones específicas sobre qué hacer.
