Radiografía: Antebrazo
¿Qué es una radiografía?
Una radiografía es una prueba segura e indolora que usa una pequeña cantidad de radiación (rayos X) para generar una imagen de los huesos, órganos y otras partes del cuerpo.
Las imágenes de las radiografías son en blanco y negro. Las partes densas del cuerpo, como los huesos, bloquean el paso de los rayos X a través del cuerpo. Estas partes se ven blancas en la imagen. Los tejidos más blandos, como la piel y los músculos, permiten el paso de los rayos X a través de ellos. Estos tejidos se ven más oscuros en la imagen.
Las radiografías se realizan comúnmente en consultorios médicos, departamentos de radiología, centros de imágenes y consultorios dentales.
¿Qué es una radiografía de antebrazo?
En una radiografía de antebrazo, una máquina de rayos X envía un haz de radiaciones a través del antebrazo (incluyendo la muñeca, el radio, el cúbito y el codo), que se registra en forma de imágenes en una película especial o en una computadora.
Un técnico de radiología tomará imágenes del antebrazo:
- de frente (vista anteroposterior o AP)
- de costado (vista lateral)
Las radiografías de antebrazo se realizan mientras el niño se sienta y coloca el brazo sobre una mesa. El niño debe permanecer quieto durante 2 a 3 segundos mientras se toma cada radiografía para que las imágenes sean claras. Si una imagen está borrosa, el técnico puede tomar otra.
¿Por qué se hacen las radiografías de antebrazo?
Una radiografía de antebrazo puede ayudar a los médicos a encontrar la causa de síntomas como el dolor, las molestias, la inflamación la presencia de deformidades en el antebrazo. Permite ver si hay huesos rotos (o fracturas) o articulaciones dislocadas. Después de haber recolocado un hueso fracturado, una radiografía puede mostrar si los huesos están bien alineados y si se han curado bien.
Una radiografía puede ayudar a los médicos a planificar una cirugía, cuando sea necesario, y verificar los resultados después de la misma. También pueden ayudar a detectar las últimas fases de las infecciones, así como quistes, tumores y otras enfermedades que afectan a los huesos del antebrazo.
