Amo a mi bebé. Sin embargo, me siento triste.
¡Tengo un bebé recién nacido y lo amo más que a la vida misma! Mi hija es la alegría de mi vida. Sin embargo, a veces me siento triste y no sé bien por qué. ¿Qué es lo que me pasa?

La transición del embarazo a la maternidad implica un gran cambio en la vida, tanto a nivel emocional como físico. Durante los primeros días de vida del bebé, es normal sentir altibajos emocionales y esta sensación suele recibir el nombre de "melancolía posparto".
Con la melancolía posparto, es posible que se sienta feliz en un momento y triste o abrumada al instante. Tal vez se sienta enojada, triste, irritable o desanimada. Sentirse de esta manera no quiere decir que una sea una "mala" madre o que no ame a su bebé.
Se cree que estos altibajos emocionales se deben a los cambios hormonales que ocurren en el cuerpo de las mujeres después de dar a luz. Los niveles de estrógeno y progesterona durante el embarazo caen repentinamente y provocan estos cambios en el estado de ánimo. Otros factores, como la fatiga o la falta de sueño, también pueden contribuir a estos sentimientos.
Afortunadamente, la melancolía posparto suele durar tan solo unos días o semanas y, en general, desaparece sola sin necesidad de tratamiento médico.
Si sufre un caso de melancolía posparto, intente cuidarse todo lo posible. Coma alimentos saludables y, en especial, descanse todo lo que pueda, ya que la falta de sueño y el cansancio pueden reforzar y alimentar los sentimientos de tristeza.
A continuación, encontrará otras cosas que pueden ayudarla a sentirse mejor:
- Acepte ayuda, en especial durante los primeros días o semanas posteriores al nacimiento.
- Permita que su familia y sus amigos la ayuden con los mandados, la compra de alimentos, las tareas del hogar o el cuidado de los niños.
- Permita que alguien prepare una comida o cuide al bebé mientras usted se relaja con una ducha, un baño o una siesta.
- Descanse mucho y coma alimentos nutritivos.
- Hable con sus seres queridos o con otras mamás primerizas que puedan ayudarla a sentirse apoyada y recordarle que no está sola.
Si la melancolía posparto dura más de una o dos semanas, o si los síntomas empeoran, hable con su médico para determinar si la causa de sus altibajos emocionales puede ser una depresión posparto.
