La endometritis es una inflamación o irritación del revestimiento del útero (endometrio).

La parte interna del útero está revestida con una membrana que recibe el nombre de "endometrio". La endometritis ocurre cuando el endometrio se inflama o se irrita. Esto suele ocurrir como resultado de una infección que llega al útero desde la vagina o el cuello del útero (cérvix).
Las causas frecuentes de infecciones incluyen bacterias vaginales anormales y las enfermedades de transmisión sexual, como la clamidiasis y la gonorrea. Las mujeres tienen un mayor riesgo de desarrollar endometritis después de un parto o un aborto (ya sea espontáneo o intencional). Los procedimientos médicos que implican entrar al útero a través del cuello del útero también pueden aumentar el riesgo de endometritis.
La endometritis puede causar inflamación y dolor abdominal, dolor en la zona lumbar, sangrado vaginal anormal, flujo vaginal anormal, fiebre, dolor al orinar o al tener relaciones sexuales y puede generar una sensación de malestar general.
La endometritis se suele tratar con antibióticos para eliminar la infección y prevenir las complicaciones.
Tenga en cuenta lo siguiente
En general, el tratamiento con antibióticos es suficiente para curar la endometritis. Si la endometritis no recibe tratamiento, la infección se puede extender. Esto puede causar una infección más grave y complicaciones, como septicemia (una infección de la sangre que puede poner en riesgo la vida) e infertilidad. El tratamiento se debe iniciar en cuanto aparezcan los síntomas y un médico diagnostique esta afección.
