¿Qué es la acantosis pigmentaria?
La acantosis pigmentaria es una afección donde aparecen manchas oscuras, de textura recia y a veces estriadas en la piel.
Esta afección es más frecuente en personas con altas concentraciones de insulina (una hormona) en sangre debido a su resistencia a la insulina, que puede derivar en una diabetes tipo 2 y otros problemas de salud.
La acantosis pigmentaria también puede ser hereditaria y desarrollarse en niños y adolescentes que, de no ser por esta afección, estarían sanos.
¿Qué más debería saber?
El tratamiento de la acantosis pigmentaria no suele ser necesario, aunque los médicos pueden recetar cremas o lociones. Si un niño tiene una acantosis pigmentaria con una causa médica, lo más importante es tratar la causa subyacente.
Mantener un peso saludable mediante la actividad física y llevar una dieta equilibrada también pueden ayudar a mejorar el aspecto de la piel.
