An asthma action plan is a set of written instructions that can help a person manage breathing problems. That way, the person doesn't have to go to the doctor or hospital all the time. A doctor works with a person to design a plan that works best for him or her. It can include a list of what triggers the person's symptoms and how to avoid these triggers, a list of symptoms to watch for and what to do if they happen, and the names and doses of medications the person needs and when to use them. It may also include information on what to do in an emergency.
