What Is Nephropathy?

Having diabetes for many years can damage small blood vessels throughout a person's body. This can affect several organs, including the kidneys. It is more likely to happen if a person's diabetes isn't well controlled. Kidney disease caused by diabetes is called diabetic nephropathy.
