Down Syndrome
Say: down SIN-drohm
Down syndrome happens
when a baby is born with an extra chromosome.
This extra genetic material causes problems with the way the baby's body and brain
develops.
People with Down syndrome have certain physical features, such as a flatter face
and upward slanting eyes, and may have health problems, such as heart defects. Kids
with Down syndrome usually have trouble learning, but they can go to regular schools
and get jobs when they are older.
