Abuse: What if I Need Help Right Now?
If you are going through abuse, or if you know someone who is, tell an adult you trust. If you don’t have an adult you can turn to, you can contact a helpline. Trained, caring people are there 24 hours a day to help. They can listen and talk with you about your situation. They can suggest next steps to take. It’s free and confidential.
Here are helplines you can contact:
If you live in the United States:
- Online at Childhelp Hotline or call (800) 422-4453
- Online at National Domestic Violence/Abuse Hotline or call (800) 799-7233
- Online at the Trevor Project (support for people who identify as LGBTQ+)
- Online at Courage First Athlete Helpline (support for athletes affected by abuse)
- Online at Covenant House (for young people who need a place to stay or sleep)
If you are injured or in danger and need help right now, call 911.
If you are outside the U.S., find help near you by talking with someone at:
- Covenant House (in Latin America)
- Covenant House (34 cities in 5 countries)
- Childline (in Europe)
- Child Helpline International (find help near you)
You deserve to be safe and protected. No one should have to go through harm, hate, or abuse. There are people who will help. There are places to find safety, feel welcome and accepted, and get the care you might need.
