A to Z: Open Wound, Nose
An open wound of the nose is a cut or break in the skin there. The wound may be minor and near the surface of the skin. Or it can be more serious, affecting deeper tissues of the nose, such as cartilage, nerves, blood vessels, or bone.
More to Know
A wound on the face requires medical attention. Doctors may try to close the wound with stitches, tape, or an adhesive glue.
Keep in Mind
Deep, large, and dirty wounds need more care. (A "dirty" wound is one that germs have gotten into.) After a child receives medical attention for a nose wound, follow instructions carefully to prevent infection and minimize scarring.
