Primeros auxilios: Dermatitis del pañal
La dermatitis del pañal es una afección de la piel frecuente en los bebés. La erupción se suele deber a la irritación causada por el pañal y la humedad, aunque puede tener otras causas.
¿Cuáles son los signos y los síntomas de la dermatitis del pañal?
La mayoría de las dermatitis del pañal están causadas por la irritación de la piel por el contacto con la orina, las heces y el sudor. A veces, los bebés tienen dermatitis del pañal debido a una alergia a un tipo de pañal o a las fragancias del detergente para la ropa, el suavizante de telas, el jabón o las toallitas húmedas.
Los signos de la dermatitis del pañal causada por irritación o alergia incluyen:
- molestias o sensibilidad en la piel
- enrojecimiento en la zona del pañal
- la piel se despelleja o se pela
- escamas en la piel
- inquietud o irritabilidad
Las erupciones también pueden estar causadas por infecciones en la piel provocadas por hongos o bacterias. Cuando la erupción se debe una infección, sus signos pueden incluir los siguientes:
- bultos rojos
- un área roja con protuberancias rojas que se extienden desde esta zona
- áreas rojas en los pliegues de la piel
- ampollas o úlceras abiertas
- úlceras llenas de pus
- supuración de líquido desde áreas de piel rojas
¿Qué hacer?
- Intente mantener la piel de su bebé bien seca.
- Siempre que sea posible, deje que su bebé pase tiempo sin pañal. Acueste a su bebé en una cuna con un cubrecolchón impermeable o sobre una toalla en el piso.
- Revise el pañal con frecuencia y cámbielo en cuanto esté mojado o sucio.
- En cada cambio de pañal:
- Con cuidado, lave con agua tibia la piel del bebé que está en contacto con el pañal. Cuando su bebé tenga dermatitis del pañal, trate de evitar los jabones y las toallitas húmedas para bebés (estos pueden irritar la piel adolorida).
- Deje que la piel se seque completamente. Después, aplique una pomada o pasta para pañales que contenga óxido de zinc (como Desitin, Triple Paste, Balmex o la marca de una tienda).
Haga que su bebé reciba cuidados médicos si:
- la dermatitis del pañal no mejora después de varios días
- el área cubierta por el pañal tiene granos, ampollas o úlceras abiertas
- su bebé tiene diarrea con fiebre y parece estar deshidratado
- sale pus de la erupción
- su hijo parece estar muy molesto
- su hijo tiene una temperatura de 100,4 °F (38 °C) o más
¡Anticipar es la mejor prevención!
La mejor manera de prevenir la dermatitis del pañal consiste en mantener la piel de su bebé lo más seca posible. Cámbiele los pañales con frecuencia para que el pis y la caca no le irriten la piel. Además:
- Use un ungüento o una pasta para la zona del pañal cada vez que le cambie el pañal al niño.
- Si usa toallitas para bebé, asegúrese de que no tengan ninguna fragancia.
- Si usa pañales de tela, lávelos con un detergente que no tenga tinturas ni fragancias y no use un suavizante ni paños suavizantes para secadoras.
