¿El tiempo puede afectar a mi asma?
A algunos niños con asma, el tiempo puede hacer que sus síntomas asmáticos empeoren. Averigüemos por qué.
¿Cómo puede el tiempo afectar al asma?
Los cambios de estación, una tormenta o un cambio repentino en el tiempo pueden hacer que nos cueste más respirar o causarnos ataques de asma o crisis asmáticas.
Aquí verás cómo el clima puede empeorar los síntomas del asma:
- El aire frío y seco puede ser un desencadenante del asma. Este desencadenante puede ser más problemático en las personas que practican deportes de invierno y en aquellas que tienen síntomas asmáticos cuando hacen ejercicio físico.
- El aire caliente y húmedo puede desencadenar síntomas asmáticos. En algunos lugares, el calor y la luz solar se combinan con la contaminación y generan ozono al nivel del suelo. Este tipo de ozono puede ser un fuerte desencadenante del asma. Y también lo puede ser el aire humeante procedente de los incendios forestales.
- El tiempo húmedo y ventoso puede provocar ataques de asma. Muchas personas con asma tienen síntomas durante las tormentas eléctricas.
Tu profesional de la salud te puede ayudar a descubrir si el tiempo está empeorando tus síntomas asmáticos. Esta información se puede incluir en tu plan de acción contra el asma.
¿Cómo puedo evitar los desencadenantes relacionados con el tiempo atmosférico?
Una vez que sepas cuáles son tus desencadenantes del asma, es importante que los evites:
- Está atento a los registros de polen y de moho previstos para tu zona y a los pronósticos del tiempo que podrían afectar a tu asma. (Un adulto puede ayudarte a hacerlo.)
- Quédate en interiores los días en que las concentraciones de tus desencadenantes sean altas.
- Si el aire frío es uno de tus desencadenantes, considera la posibilidad de cubrirte o taparte la boca y la nariz con una bufanda holgada cuando haga frío.
- Cierra bien las ventanas por la noche. Si hace calor, utiliza el aire acondicionado, que limpia, refresca y seca el aire.
- Ten siempre a mano tu medicamento de alivio rápido (también llamado "medicamento de rescate" o "de efecto inmediato"), ¡incluso aunque te encuentres bien!
