muscle sheath

The muscle sheath is a strong layer of connective tissue that wraps around a muscle and holds it together in the right place. The sheath also separates the muscle from other muscles and allows it to move and tighten smoothly. The medical name for this connective tissue is fascia (FASH-uh).
