Pronounced: pros-THEE-sus. A prosthesis is a fake body part. When someone loses an arm or a leg, or when a person is born without an arm or leg or some other part of the body, he or she may be able to get a prosthesis, a manmade part that replaces what\'s missing. Other kinds of prostheses include artificial heart valves and false teeth.
