Pronounced: kon-jung-tih-VY-tis. Sometimes called pinkeye, conjunctivitis happens when the conjunctiva, the covering of your eye and inside your eyelids, gets infected. Conjunctivitis can make your eye itchy, teary, or gunky, especially when you wake up in the morning.
