Pronounced: KATH-uh-tur. A catheter is a tiny tube put into the body through which doctors can give medicines or fluids, draw blood, or remove fluids. Putting in a catheter is a surgical procedure. A catheter can stay in place for as long as it\'s needed. Having a catheter means someone doesn\'t have to get lots of needle sticks.
