Comer en restaurantes cuando tienes diabetes
Mmm. . . Comida italiana. . . china. . . pescados. . . No, mejor, comida mexicana. A todos nos encanta comer afuera. ¿Los niños con diabetes pueden ir a restaurantes? ¡Por supuesto que sí!
¿A qué restaurantes se puede ir?
Los niños con diabetes no necesitan una dieta especial. Pero, como todos los niños, deben comer una combinación de alimentos saludables. Ningún restaurante está prohibido, pero si estás ayudando a escoger el restaurante, busca los que ofrezcan algunos platos nutritivos. Puedes consultar los menús en línea.
No necesitas buscar un lugar que sirva hamburguesas de soja y bastoncillos de zanahoria, aunque las dos opciones podrían ser deliciosas. Si puedes escoger algunas proteínas, grasas e hidratos de carbono, podrás comer sano.
A veces, irás a restaurantes que tienen exactamente lo que deseas y necesitas. En otras ocasiones, tal vez te cueste un poco encontrar algo. Si te ocurre esto, recuerda que muchos restaurantes responderán a tus preguntas y reemplazarán algunos ingredientes si lo pides.
Algunos consejos rápidos
Pon en práctica estos consejos cuando comas fuera:
- Pregunta. A veces, el menú no dice realmente lo que contiene un plato o cómo está preparado (por ejemplo, si es horneado o frito). No temas preguntar. La persona que tome tu pedido debe saber la respuesta o ser capaz de averiguarla.
- Haz cambios. Para que una comida sea bien equilibrada, pregunta si puedes reemplazar ciertos ingredientes o guarniciones (por ejemplo, podrías pedir una ensalada en lugar de papas fritas). No te sientas raro; las personas hacen cambios en el menú todo el tiempo. En algunos restaurantes, puedes pedirle al cocinero que prepare algo de una forma diferente. Tal vez puedas pedir que cocinen al horno el pollo en lugar de freírlo.
- Presta atención a las guarniciones. Evita los alimentos con salsas y pide que te traigan los aderezos por separado.
- Escoge tu propia porción. En los restaurantes, las porciones pueden ser muy grandes. No dudes en comer solo parte de lo que pediste y llevarte el resto a tu casa. También puedes compartir tu comida con uno de tus padres o un amigo.
¿Qué debo llevar conmigo?
Cuando comas fuera de tu casa, lleva las cosas que llevas a todos lados, como tu medidor, bocadillos y medicamentos. Puede resultarte útil tener un libro o una aplicación que indique la cantidad de calorías, grasas e hidratos de carbono de algunos alimentos. Si no tienes ninguno, consulta con tu médico o dietista o nutricionista. Y después, usa esa herramienta para elegir opciones saludables del menú. Si utilizas edulcorantes artificiales o productos untables sin grasas, también puedes llevarlos contigo.
Si usas insulina, no es necesario que te quedes en casa si debes comer más tarde de lo habitual; en la mayoría de los casos, puedes ajustar levemente el horario de tu medicación.
Una vez que sepas cómo comer de manera saludable, podrás hacerlo prácticamente en cualquier lugar. Ahora, la única pregunta es si te gustaría comer tacos, langosta o . . . mmm. . . ¡pizza!
