Primeros auxilios: Huesos rotos
Los huesos rotos (o fracturas) son una lesión frecuente, especialmente después de una caída. Sin importar cuál sea el hueso afectado o la magnitud de la lesión, todas las fracturas de huesos necesitan atención médica.
He aquí lo que debe hacer si usted u otra persona podría haberse fracturado un hueso.
Signos y síntomas de las fracturas
Es posible que se haya fracturado un hueso si:
- Oyó un ruido seco tipo chasquido o crujido durante una lesión.
- El área lesionada se hincha, se pone morada o duele.
- Es difícil mover la zona lesionada o se siente dolor al moverla, tocarla y cargar peso.
- Hay una deformación; es decir, esa parte del cuerpo se ve torcida o diferente de cómo se veía antes de la lesión.
¿Qué hacer?
- Quite la ropa de la zona lesionada. Si hacerlo causa mucho dolor, use tijeras para cortar la ropa y quitarla.
- Aplique hielo envuelto en un paño o una toalla.
- No intente mover ni volver la extremidad lesionada a su lugar.
- Si tiene una férula, colóquela en la zona afectada. Las férulas mantienen el hueso inmóvil y lo protegen hasta que usted puede ver a un médico. Para hacer una férula temporal, puede usar cartón, cartulina o diarios doblados y envolverlos con una cinta o venda elástica.
- Busque atención médica.
- La persona lesionada no debe comer ni beber por si es necesaria una cirugía.
No mueva al niño y llme al 911 de inmediato si:
- Usted u otra persona ha sufrido una lesión grave en la cabeza, el cuello o la espalda.
- Un hueso roto asoma a través de la piel. Mientras espera que llegue la ayuda, haga lo siguiente:
- La persona lesionada permanecer recostada.
- No lave la herida ni empuje hacia dentro del cuerpo la parte del hueso que ha salido hacia el exterior.
¡Anticipar es la mejor prevención!
No todas las facturas se pueden prevenir. Pero puede hacer que las fracturas sean menos probables siguiendo estos consejos:
- Ayude a sus hijos a tener huesos fuertes asegurándose de que reciban suficiente calcio, vitamina D y que hagan suficiente actividad física
- Procure que los niños y los adolescentes usen siempre un casco y equipo de seguridad (como muñequeras y rodilleras) al andar en bicicleta, patineta, monopatín o cualquier tipo de patines
- Recuérdeles a sus pequeños deportistas que usen siempre el equipo de seguridad necesario para su deporte.
- Use puertas de seguridad en las habitaciones y en la escalera (para proteger a los bebés y niños pequeños).
- No use andadores para bebés.
