Análisis de sangre: Hormona foliculoestimulante (FSH)
¿Qué es un análisis de sangre?
Extrayendo y analizando una pequeña muestra de la sangre de una persona, los médicos pueden detectar muchos tipos de enfermedades o afecciones médicas. Los análisis de sangre ayudan a evaluar qué tan bien están funcionando los órganos del cuerpo y a saber si un tratamiento médico está (o no) siendo eficaz.
Para ayudar a su hijo a prepararse para un análisis de sangre, averigüe si necesita ayunar (no comer ni beber) o si debería dejar de tomar algún medicamento antes del análisis. Explíquele qué esperar durante el análisis. Si su hijo está ansioso porque le van a sacar sangre, practique con él maneras de mantener la calma.
¿Qué es la hormona folículoestimulante?
La hormona folículoestimulante es una hormona producida por la hipófisis.
En los niños, las concentraciones de hormona folículoestimulante suelen ser bajas. Cuando se acerca la pubertad (generalmente entre los 10 y los 14 años de edad), el encéfalo secreta la hormona liberadora de la gonadotropina (GnRH), que es la que pone en marcha los cambios hacia la madurez sexual. La GnRH le indica a la hipófisis que secrete dos hormonas de la pubertad en el torrente sanguíneo: la hormona folículoestimulante y la hormona luteinizante, también llamada lutropina).
Estas dos hormonas les indican a los testículos y los ovarios que produzcan las hormonas que desencadenan los cambios que ocurren durante la pubertad.
Las hormonas sexuales humanas trabajan de forma coordinada. Por eso, es posible que los médicos hagan un análisis de hormona folículoestimulante junto con análisis de sangre para medir la lutropina, el estradiol y la testosterona. El conjunto de resultados les da a los médicos una idea más completa del grado de madurez sexual de un niño o un adolescente.
¿Por qué se hacen los análisis de hormona folículoestimulante?
El análisis de la hormona folículoestimulante mide la concentración de esta hormona en el torrente sanguíneo. Es probable que los médicos pidan este análisis si la pubertad comienza antes o después de lo esperado.
Este análisis se puede usar para evaluar las lesiones o las enfermedades en los testículos o los ovarios, la hipófisis o el hipotálamo (una parte del encéfalo que relaciona el sistema nervioso con el sistema endocrino que es el encargado de producir hormonas).
En los adultos, las concentraciones de FSH también ayudan a los médicos a evaluar los problemas de fertilidad y los de tipo menstrual.
