Seguridad cuando hace mucho frío, hay hielo o nieve
El invierno no es en absoluto una estación para quedarse en casa hasta que llegue la primavera. Hay un montón de maravillosos deportes ahí fuera para toda la familia y, además, alguien tiene que limpiar la nieve para que podamos salir de casa, ¿verdad?
Siga estos consejos para mantenerse seguros fuera de casa cuando haga mucho frío.
Disfrutar de la seguridad cuando hace mucho frío
Cuando salgan al exterior y haga mucho frío, manténganse seguros y calientes. Los niños se deben vestir con capas de ropa. Las capas permiten mantener el cuerpo bien caliente. Además, si las capas más externas se mojan por la lluvia o la nieve congelada, estas se pueden quitar y ponerlas a secar mientras se mantiene el calor corporal. Use más capas cuanto más frío haga en el exterior.
Así mismo:
- La lana suele ser más caliente que el algodón.
- Los pantalones y las chaquetas impermeables ayudan a mantener el cuerpo seco.
- Los gorros ayudan a mantener calientes la cabeza.
- Proteja la cara de su hijo con protector solar. La nieve refleja la mayor parte de los rayos solares ultravioletas, haciendo de las quemaduras por efecto de la luz solar un riesgo real.
- Haga que su hijo se ponga guantes o manoplas, calcetines y botas calientes para ayudar a evitar las congelaciones.
Los niños son más proclives a las quemaduras por frío y a las congelaciones que los adultos. La mejor manera de prevenirlas consiste en asegurarse de que van vestidos de tal modo que estén calientes, y que no pasen demasiado tiempo en un ambiente extremadamente frío.
Las quemaduras por frío son un signo de alarma inicial. Dejan la piel roja, insensible, con picazón y/u hormigueo. Si le ocurren a su hijo, llévelo a un interior y quítele todas las prendas de ropa húmedas o mojadas que lleve puestas porque le quitarían más el calor corporal. Introduzca las partes del cuerpo afectadas en agua tibia (no caliente) durante unos 20–30 minutos.
Las congelaciones afectan mayoritariamente a los dedos de manos y pies, las orejas, la nariz y las mejillas. Las partes del cuerpo congeladas se ponen muy frías y de color banco o amarillento tirando a gris. Si percibe una congelación en su hijo, llévelo de inmediato al servicio de urgencias médicas de un hospital.
No existe una cantidad fija de tiempo durante la cual se pueda permitir que los niños pasen tiempo fuera en un exterior muy frío. Pero deben saber que, cuando el frío les resulte desagradable, habrá llegado el momento de refugiarse en un interior. A veces, les puede bastar con cambiarse de guantes al tenerlos mojados. Haga que su hijo lleve en los bolsillos un par de guantes y de calcetines de sobra si va a estar en un exterior muy frío durante un rato.
¿Qué más debería saber?
Para ayudar a los niños a disfrutar de los deportes de invierno, asegúrese de que saben disfrutar de forma segura en los siguientes deportes:
- el trineo
- el esquí
- el patinaje sobre hielo
- el esquí de tabla (snowboard)
- el hockey sobre hielo
¿Van a salir de viaje por carretera en pleno invierno? Asegúrese de que disponen de un botiquín de primeros auxilios, mantas y guantes de sobra en el coche.
