A-Z: Atresia aórtica
La atresia es una afección donde un bebé nace con una válvula o conducto ausente o cerrado en alguna parte de su cuerpo. La atresia aórtica es un defecto o anomalía poco frecuente que afecta a las válvulas del corazón.

El aire, la sangre, los fluidos corporales y los productos de desecho viajan por todo el cuerpo a través de un sistema de vasos, tubos y cámaras que suelen estar separados por válvulas. Cuando un niño nace con atresia, significa que le falta una válvula o que un conducto está cerrado. Esto interrumpe el flujo normal de la sangre, los fluidos, las sustancias de desecho o el aire, lo que puede dar lugar a una serie de complicaciones.
La mayor parte la atresias son graves y pueden ser mortales si no se tratan. El tratamiento suele consistir en operar al niño cuando todavía es un bebé.
La atresia puede afectar a muchas partes del cuerpo, como la nariz, los oídos, el tubo digestivo, el corazón y otros órganos. Cada tipo de atresia recibe su nombre en función de la parte del cuerpo a la que afecta:
- La atresia tricúspide y la atresia pulmonar también afectan a las válvulas del corazón.
- La atresia de coanas es un defecto de las fosas nasales (coanas).
- La atresia biliar es un defecto del hígado o del sistema biliar.
- La atresia anal (ano imperforado) y la atresia esofágica son anomalías del tubo digestivo.
Tenga en cuenta
La mayoría de los tipos de atresia se pueden tratar con éxito mediante cirugía (operando al paciente); algunos casos pueden requerir más de una operación.
