Las vacunas y la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal
¿Por qué los niños con una enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal necesitan vacunarse?
Todos los niños deben estar protegidos contra las enfermedades que las vacunas pueden ayudar a prevenir. Pero los niños que padecen una enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal tienen más probabilidades de contraer infecciones. Por lo tanto, es muy importante que se pongan todas las vacunas a tiempo.
El profesional de la salud que lleva a su hijo revisará atentamente su cartilla de vacunaciones y le administrará las vacunas necesarias lo antes posible.
¿Qué vacunas no le debería poner?
La vacuna contra la varicela, la triple vírica (sarampión, paperas y rubéola) y la vacuna antigripal que se administra por vía intranasal contienen virus vivos, de modo que no se pueden administrar a niños que toman medicamentos que les debilitan el sistema inmunitario. Siempre que sea posible, las vacunas que contengan virus vivos se deben administrar antes de iniciar el tratamiento inmunodepresor.
¿Qué vacunas son seguras para un niño con una enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal?
Las vacunas que no contienen virus vivos se deben administrar según las indicaciones del calendario vacunal. Puesto que estas vacunas no contienen virus vivos, se pueden administrar incluso si el niño está tomando medicamentos que debilitan su sistema inmunitario.
Estas vacunas incluyen las siguientes:
- el tétanos y la difteria
- la gripe (influenza)
- la hepatitis B
- la hepatitis A
- la meningitis meningocócica
- la vacuna contra el virus del papiloma humano (VPM)
- la neumonía neumocócica
- COVID-19 (5 años y mayores)
¿Qué más debería saber?
Es posible que el profesional de la salud que atiende a su hijo le mande análisis de sangre para evaluar sus anticuerpos. Los anticuerpos son proteínas que contiene la sangre que muestran si una persona está protegida porque ya ha padecido determinada infección o se ha vacunado contra ella previamente.
Las vacunas son seguras para los niños y los adolescentes que padecen una enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal y no empeorarán sus síntomas.
