I got drunk one night and had sex with a guy I didn't know. I want to know if he's clean or not but I'm too shy and embarrassed to ask. What do I do?

Start by seeing a doctor or health clinic to get tested for STDs and pregnancy. You will also need to go back to the doctor or clinic to be retested for HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) later on since it takes a while for that infection to show up in tests.

It's good to ask a partner about STDs, but it's even more important to get tested. People who have STDs often don't know that they're infected. That's why it's important to use a condom to help protect against STDs every time you have sex.

Unfortunately, alcohol and drugs take away our ability to make good decisions about things like condom use and sexual partners. When you're going out, always let someone know where you'll be, and plan a safe way to get home. Stay aware of your surroundings, who you're with, and how sober you and the people around you are so you can stop things before you get into a situation you don't want to be in — or one that's possibly dangerous.
