How Can I Tell If I Have a Yeast Infection?
How can I tell if I have a yeast infection?
– Joella*
A girl usually experiences certain symptoms if she has a yeast infection, also known as candidiasis. These symptoms may include itching and irritation in the vagina, swelling and irritation of the vulva (the folds of skin outside the vagina), pain or burning with urination or sex, or thick, white vaginal discharge that resembles cottage cheese. Some girls will have several of these symptoms, while others may only notice one or two.
If you think you may have a yeast infection, or if you have any vaginal symptoms or abnormal discharge, it's best to see a doctor. Other infections, including some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), can cause similar symptoms. Your doctor can also recommend the best treatment for you.
