I had a miscarriage 2 months ago. How soon can I start trying to become pregnant again? Do I have to take any special precautions to make sure I don’t miscarry again?

Some doctors recommend that women wait 2 to 3 months or more before trying to get pregnant again to give their bodies time to heal, and so that they are emotionally ready to be pregnant again. Continue to take preconception precautions, like taking folic acid; abstaining from drinking, smoking, or using drugs; and avoiding other substances that might harm a pregnancy.

If you miscarry more than once, you may want to talk with your doctor about medical conditions or other factors that could be putting you at risk for miscarriage.

If you become pregnant again, be sure to maintain a healthy, nutrient-rich diet and limit or avoid caffeine. Also avoid foods that can cause illnesses, such as soft unpasteurized cheeses or undercooked meats.
