Word! Peak Flow Meter

Word! Peak Flow Meter

Peak Flow Meter

(En español: Medidor de flujo máximo)

Say: peek flo mee-tur

A peak flow meter can tell you how well your lungs are working. It's great for a person with asthma because it can tell if the airways have narrowed, even before the person coughs, wheezes, or has trouble breathing. To use it, a person blows into it and then checks the reading. It's portable, it doesn't need to be plugged in, and you don't need a doctor or nurse to use it. Many people use a peak flow meter at home to see how well they're keeping their asthma under control.
