They're radishes!

Picture of radishes.

What are they?

Radishes are root vegetables, which means the part you eat grows underground.

Why should you care?

If you like spicy stuff, you might like these. The most common variety is red and has a peppery flavor. They're low in calories and contain vitamin C and potassium.

How do you eat radishes?

Traditional red radishes can be eaten raw in salads, sandwiches, or with dips. Other varieties of radishes are usually cooked, which mellows their peppery bite.

Anything weird about radishes?

Radishes are pretty easy to grow, but be careful. The Chinese variety, called daikon, can grow pretty big — up to 100 pounds!
